i just bumped into my manager in the hallway and i asked him whether i should initiate a feedback form for my last project (on CME) before our mid-year review. he was like, don't worry about it, the mid year review is only important for the handful of people who are going to be put up for promotion. this basically means that i'm not going to be promoted this december. i guess that's OK although i am bummed because I honestly think I'm of the same caliber as the people who were promoted last year after only spending a year here. it is just really disheartening.
FINALLY my last work-rant of the day is that i did not even get CC'ed on the final copy of our report. the manager was like, "oh it probably was because we didn't want to disturb you on vacation." what bull.

stanford gsb
very cool panel tonight. including 1 indian self-proclaimed geek who talked about stanford's footprint. covers 2/3 of the top 30 PE firms, and 75% according to capital, haha.
also interesting things: stanford will hand you a paycheck for the difference of your paycheck vs. avg mba during your summer internship if you end up doing nonprofit or entreprenuership.
one blond girl seemed very well put together. realized it's all about confidence, as well as the ability to speak with clarity. she didn't blink very much and had intelligence in her eyes.
also cool thing: mandatory global experience.
non profit program management certificate

HBS reception

HBS reception at the American Express building
HBS – general management program (versus Wharton as finance)
Case method
• Habit of making decisions
• Courage to act under uncertainty
• Tests: what’s your plan of action more than depth of your analysis
• Way of thinking has become a habit (responding to lack of data and competing universities)
Upon getting in
• Commitment to giving – you need to give to classmates, give to take risks, give when you are an alumnus and get contacted by current students
Applying
• What is your story?

the balance btwn likeability and assertiveness
walking from the subway to the office, crossing the street... car that must have raced through the red light coming perpendicular to the crosswalk, blocks the traffic from the other section, parallel tou us. i wanted to shout and force everyone to stop crossing the street and let the car through, but i haven't reached that stage yet. i want to. but i think i have an inherent fear of not being liked. i thinki the key to success in business is to be a liked person, and i have not yet uncovered that fine balance between likeability and assertiveness.
